Sunshine Coast Whale Watching

You can often see the migrating Humpback Whales from our apartments as the whales breach the ocean surface and clear their blow holes.

Throughout June, July and August these magnificent whales pass Maroochy waters on their migration to tropical North Queensland waters to give birth to their calves.

From mid August through to September, October and November the humpback whales amble south to Antarctica with their calves, often resting and playing along the way.

The waters out from Mooloolaba are a favourite stop, so Maroochydore is an ideal place to stay. With over 16,000 whales passing by last year, this year looks set to be an even better season with numbers set to rise by ten percent this year. You’re pretty much assured that you will get to see plenty of whales from your window.

Book a whale watching cruise and experience these majestic creatures in the water, a safe distance away. Although quite frequently the whales will come a little closer to the boats out of curiosity.

Whale watching can work up an appetite. A great place to meet and eat is the Maroochy Surf Club on Alexandra Parade. You’ll enjoy the friendly welcome, and also the flash new surf club building complex. Drink and dine with superb ocean views.

For other restaurants, neighbouring Mooloolaba has a very good range of top notch restaurants. For steak, seafood, Indian or fusion, there are restaurants that will satisfy even the fussiest palates. Just for a change, the Mooloolaba Surf Club is also worth a look, they’ve just renovated and refurbished, and their dedicated kids area is chocka with Playstation games and a chillout zone.

If you have come for whale watching on the Sunshine Coast the Majorca Isles is the place to stay. Book your accommodation and whale watching cruise with us. We can organise the whole package.
